Tips -
Stamping Directions for Hot Iron Transfer Patterns.
Stamping cannot always be removed. Follow directions carefully.
To get several clear stampings from each design follow these simple directions.
1. Wash fabric to remove sizing before stamping.
2. Cut out the design to be stamped. Cut away any portion not wanted in the stampling.. Any smear marks or unwanted lines will transfer if not removed prior to stamping. Heat fabric by ironing. Hot fabric stamps more quickly.
3. Pin or baste pattern on fabric with the printed side down. Place fabric on a smooth protected, padded ironing board.
4. Preheat a DRY iron on cotton setting for heavy weight fabric or on the wool setting for light weight fabric; check to make sure iron temperature will not harm fabric.
5. Place preheated dry iron on the transfer. Move iron slowly, back and forth for 5 seconds. Check stamping by carefully raising edge of pattern to make sure transfer design is clear. If design appears faint, repeat step # 5.
6. For dark materials, which may not show stamping, place white dressmakers carbon, color side down, between transfer pattern and fabric. Carefully trace lines of pattern with sharp pencil.
7. Always use a test transfer from each pattern. Use a a scrap of the fabric you will be stamping. This will help determine the proper heat setting and time required for a clear stamping.
HINTS
1. Synthetic fabrics such a rayon and nylon cannot take too much heat. When transferring on synthetic fabrics, use a cloth between pattern and iron to protect fabric from heat of iron. Use heat setting recommended for the type of fabric you are using.
2. Stamping on needlework canvas requires the cotton setting and more time for stamping. Place a cloth between iron and transfer to protect canvas from heat of iron.
